While never a big fan of the Cocteau Twins, we can’t help but hear the song “Wax and Wane” in our heads when we consider this piece. As part of the Moon Phases Series, this piece is an attempt to show us both sides of the moon as it revolves around the earth. When the sun illuminates more and more of its surface, the moon “waxes” from her darkened new moon phase, while the tiniest sliver we see in the night sky is the final “waning” of the Old Moon. What consistency is offered by our rotating galaxy!

Hematite is said to offer inspiration for those who practice yoga; hold the mala as you meditate your affirmations. Various black crystal beads included in this strand can be used for protection, if you need to feel safe and secure. Black is also considered a good color for what is referred to as a Barrier crystal; focus to protect yourself from negativity. Smokey grey faceted crystals deflect unwanted energies.
There are 108 beads to this strand, so it hangs like a Mala Prayer strand with the Parve crystal stamped crescent. As with all other designs, the clasp is meant to be seen, wear it to the right or left to represent the wax or wane of the moon.
