COLLECTION: On Scarabs

This particular series is originally inspired by select pieces of art by Thomas Edwin Mostyn, (b.1864-d.1930) an artist with an eclectic style, however, primarily known for his lush romantic garden scenes and his excessive use of colors and paint, once referred to as “orgies in paint”.

A random post on Instagram by one of our favorite aesthetes S. Elizabeth, (aka Mlle. Ghoul aka @ghoulnextdoor author of The Art of the Occult and writer/creator for Unquiet Things for Kindred Glooms) featuring several images of Mostyn’s work. I was particularly struck by  “A Viennese Memory” and “The Jewel”. Immediately an image of the gorgeous  crystal scarabs came to mind and inspiration was born.

Each strand includes one or more genuine crystal scarabs, plus an array of semi-precious stones and powerful crystals, all grounded and anchored in black onyx, tourmaline, obsidian and/or astrophyllite. Interspersed here and there can be found moonstone, labradorite, clear and smokey crystal quartz, cat’s eye, white jade, citrine, golden and silvery grey hematite, genuine emerald chips, aventurine, amethyst, lepidolite and topaz. Each is also finished with a handset etched scarab connector made of black jet, genuine topaz, clear quartz or creamy white milkglass.
